The cattle wander the land,
wanting to graze even though it lay barren,
father blamed the drought,
but the neighbouring farms cattle were fat,
father even begged the neighbours but returned with a deep sorrow in his eyes,
forced to take drastic measures father culled every single head of the herd,
he had no choice,
then the seasons changed,
bringing storms of wind and snow,
but only I survived the winter madness.

We Choose

Jan 3rd, 2010 | By editor | Category: Poetry now, Scribblings on arts and culture

Hereditary compulsion perhaps,
Burning desire more than likely,
Circumstantial I suppose,
People choose, I Choose,
We Choose,
God religion, Jesus and sex, pornographical images,
Dollars and war,
Vegetarian, veganism,
Lies and truth look very similar,
Are they identical twins?
Maybe conjoined,
Severed, by our conscious guilt,
Blaming, controlling fucking weird,
Be us, be you,
Take a pick now or piss off.
Global warming,
Global freezing,
Give us your fucking money,
Fake eradication will […]

Locked Up By Derek English
The days are passing,
And I’m so sad,
I miss the best girl
I ever had
She’s my girlfriend,
And I love her so -
But what’s the difference?
They won’t let me go.
Forget Me Not (Haiku) By Derek English
Down on the seashore,
Carved on a rock,
Three little words
‘Forget Me Not’
The Iniquity of Innocents By Nathan Fagan Guimond
‘The streets […]

A Lone Soldier

Nov 3rd, 2009 | By editor | Category: Poetry now, Scribblings on arts and culture

A LONE SOLDIER by Alan Maguire
I’m not on a battlefield,
Not in a war,
And can’t comprehend,
What this hell is for
This is just make believe, just a child’s game,
And I can’t hear my comrades, screaming in pain.
No war machines, enemies, bullets or blood,
Me not up to my knees, deep in the mud.
The bombs aren’t falling and I’m […]

Balloon Soul

Balloon Soul
We are the replication young men,
who used to chase the many pavements, dead in heat
who knew the lines that knew our face, long before its very cracks healed our wounds
We are the old young men,
who launched our boundless bones over broken walls into the sea, carelessly
who knew the waves upon which we’d crash, long […]

today the red cross sent her for a chest x-ray

today the red cross sent her for a chest x-ray

this girl I know
who always wears summer dresses
and a smile
lent me a book on awareness
but wants it back before
she goes to work in a conflict zone
for the red cross in september
she travelled in a big red bus
to a surfers festival in donegal
where she worked
in the big […]

The Retreat

Aug 1st, 2009 | By editor | Category: Poetry now, Scribblings on arts and culture

As I try to Speak these words aloud,
you know there’s no reason to wait behind,
you know I’ve tried and failed again a thousand other times
I’m shackled in this dusty cave,
I’ve become too blind to light
I’m holding up my head too long,
I’m tired day and night
You sang from the stands of time,
and drove the crowds to […]

FIRE

she left me with a fever
burnt from the sunflowers in her eyes
pressing down my eye-lids
aching for sleep for escape
my limbs yawning in hers
a sensory memory replayed
sliding up and down my body
joints aching for her breath
to fall upon them […]

I wish I could top up your love

I wish I could top up your love
like credit on my mobile phone;
it might leave me constantly broke
but that’s better than being all alone.

I wish I […]
