Acclaimed music series ‘Other Voices’ is set to return to our TV screens on Wednesday next, February 3, 2010. West Cork music fans will take special interest in the first episode as local three-piece LOWmountain are to feature alongside Mercury Prize winner Speech Debelle, Choice Music Prize nominee Adrian Crowley and the multi-platinum-selling Snow Patrol.

LOWmountain were one of just six acts that were invited to record for the Other Room segment of the series which is now in its eighth season. This element of Other Voices assists new acts in getting a foothold on the music industry ladder and many have gone on to get industry and public recognition.

LOWmountain first came into being in the latter half of 2008 when Alan Tobin, a native of Ardfield, and Niall O’Driscoll, Skibbereen, decided to write some songs together. They were joined by Deirdre Archbold, from Clonakilty in 2009 and have since built a steady following locally, through their own gigs but also by playing support to more established acts such as Dog Tail Soup and Mick Flannery.

LOWmountain also featured on the bill for the CorkXSouthwest Festival last August and have had airplay on 96FM, C103FM, RTE Radio 1 and Northern Sound/Shannonside radio. Being invited to go to Dingle shortly before Christmas to record for Other Voices was the highpoint of an already great year for this band.
At live gigs, LOWmountain present the audience with a stripped down, nowhere-to-hide acoustic set that puts a strong emphasis on vocals, augmented by subtle instrumentation. In the studio the band might stretch their wings a little, but the core value of having a good song to start with is always paramount. Having released their first EP in 2009, LOWmountain are currently working on new material, due for completion very shortly.
