Diary of a Punk Poet: Collectively stronger

Aug 3rd, 2010 | By editor | Category: Featured articles, Scribblings on arts and culture, The punk poets progress

TweetShare Collectively stronger, that’s the idea; I guess that’s Mutantspace’s strength too, so with that in mind I set about trying to find other slam poets in Cork. (Slam to me meaning poets that don’t read from a book) Now this isn’t a rule or anything but just a guide. There does seem to be [...]

Notes from a new Irish poet

TweetShare A Portrait So Divine I painted a picture disturbing, of a long dead king not allowed to rest. The chosen few allowed to feast their eyes upon his preserved body, drinking from his wounds, devouring his flesh .They seek immortality, they seek knowledge. These ghouls shall only find one thing, depravity. Bewilderment Face shaped [...]

TweetShare Staring at an empty page, waiting for it to make its mind up, looking at it, full of possibilities. Could be a song, poem, story, letter, even a list of future plans and possibilities… but no, it stays there stubbornly smirking, laughing at me, blank with nothing to say. “You can’t think of anything [...]

Diary of a Punk Poet

Mar 3rd, 2010 | By editor | Category: Featured articles, Scribblings on arts and culture, The punk poets progress

It’s getting an audience in to see a punk poet or a bunch of likeminded people to enjoy your art form and are willing to give up an evening to take a chance on something new. My poetry is inspired by the likes of John Cooper Clarke and bands such as Joy Division and The Fall more than the traditional poets.

The cattle wander the land,
wanting to graze even though it lay barren,
father blamed the drought,
but the neighbouring farms cattle were fat,
father even begged the neighbours but returned with a deep sorrow in his eyes,
forced to take drastic measures father culled every single head of the herd,
he had no choice,
then the seasons changed,
bringing storms of wind and snow,
but only I survived the winter madness.
